31 October 2024 | A good extra virgin olive oil is a cornerstone of the Mediterranean Diet, the healthiest diet in the world, and perhaps the only food that combines health, taste and scenery. But have you ever thought about olive oil and skin care?
A high quality Extra Virgin Olive Oil oil has extremely beneficial effects on the skin of children, adults and the elderly. It can replace a moisturiser or combat dandruff and seborrhoeic dermatitis, or even treat and soothe minor burns and sunburns.
Try it to believe: here are the recipes!
Against minor burns or sunburns
The best solution to reduce pain in these cases is an emollient and moisturising mix of 50% olive oil and 50% water.
This natural remedy is even more effective than the water, onions or potatoes that all Grandmas and Mums suggest!
Against dandruff and seborrhoeic dermatitis
Prepare a compress by mixing olive oil with a little lemon juice and water and apply to damp hair. After half an hour, proceed with normal washing, carefully removing any residue.
For dry skin
Just a few drops on the skin, massaging until absorbed, are enough for a moisturising and soothing action.
There is no need to add other ingredients, unless you are also looking for an exfoliating action for which you can add a little sugar to the oil.
Scrub
To exfoliate and cleanse the skin, you can prepare a scrub with just two ingredients that we all have at home: olive oil – the good, organic one! – and sugar.
You only need 2 parts olive oil and 1 part sugar, but you can adjust the dosage to your preference and add other ingredients such as organic honey or almond flour for even more nourishing action.
How about trying olive oil and skin care too?
